Students in year 12 must choose six subjects. The only compulsory requirement is a course in English. Students will be advised by their English teacher and Dean as to the best course of English to be studied at this level. Most year 12 students should be looking to select courses containing mainly level 2 credits.
There are pre-requisites to studying subjects at Year 12. Many subjects will require a certain number of credits to have been gained in specific achievement standards to guarantee entry into a year 12 course. Students must consult with the subject Head of Department and the Dean before they can be entered into a subject if they have not achieved the necessary marks.
Please note that students who wish to go on to university or tertiary study need to be sure that the subjects selected at year 12 will enable them to obtain the minimum literacy and numeracy requirements for university entrance and will provide them with access to at least five subjects at level 3 or year 13.
