Term Four Week 4

Message from the Principal

Tēnā koutou katoa

As we head further into November, our senior students have now officially commenced their study leave, preparing for and sitting their NCEA exams. We wish each of them the very best and encourage them to fully engage with the resources available—whether by checking our Facebook page for updates, reading their emails for scheduled tutorial times, or meeting with their teachers for extra guidance. Attending these tutorials can make a world of difference, giving students the opportunity to clarify challenging concepts and reinforce key areas ahead of their exams.

Here are a few useful tips for studying: set up a quiet space, organise your notes, take regular breaks, and practice with past papers. Small, consistent efforts often bring the best results, so take advantage of this time to study effectively.

In other school news, we’re excited for the upcoming Gisborne Girls’ High School sports exchange. The teams for Junior Sevens Rugby, Netball and Volleyball have now been selected and permission slips will be sent out by Finn shortly. We wish these teams good luck and know they’ll represent our school with pride and sportsmanship—have fun and give it your all!

Next week, our two Exploring the Outdoors Hubs will embark on a field study at local rivers as part of the Kaitiakitanga unit. This hands-on opportunity will allow students to test water quality and deepen their understanding of environmental stewardship, helping them connect theory to real-world practice.

Please also note that Friday 15 November will be a Teachers-only Day, meaning students will not be required at school. No exams are scheduled on this day due to Canterbury Anniversary Day. Our staff will use this time to engage in professional development, focusing on the latest curriculum updates and NCEA changes. This day allows teachers across the region to collaborate, share insights and build their skills to better support student learning.

With just over four weeks left in the school year, let’s work together to finish strong. Our expectations around punctuality and proper uniform remain in place. Teachers have structured lessons planned through to the final day and regular attendance is crucial to ensure students don’t miss valuable learning that will support them next year.

Diwali

Last week, we celebrated Diwali with the amazing sabhyachar girls!  We kicked off with sweet-making, crafting treats like peda, gulab jamun, and pani puri, filling the air with delicious aromas.

On celebration day, our food stall buzzed with activity, offering jalebi, samosas and more. Everyone enjoyed the tasty treats while we played festive Diwali songs, setting a vibrant mood.  We also hosted engaging activities with speeches, quizzes and henna designs, culminating in a lively dance floor where students and teachers celebrated together!

This Diwali, we embraced unity and joy. Wishing everyone love and togetherness.  Happy Diwali!
