Becoming a Hastings Girls' High School student
For many years, parents from around the globe have chosen Hastings Girls’ High School for their daughter's overseas education. After their time as part of the HGHS whanau, students return home with everlasting memories, warm new friendships, unique experiences that they have enjoyed and enriched their lives for ever. Our dedicated International Coordinator provides exceptional pastoral care to international students and also arranges and monitors their homestay families to make the most of the opportunities on offer.
Some girls join us to improve their English language and they soon discover they gain so much more than a better understanding of English.
About Hastings Girls' High School
Here at Hastings Girls’ High School, each girl takes centre stage as we shape her educational experience to best meet her learning needs.
Choosing the right school for your daughter is about finding the place that encourages her to be her best self. Join us on this educational journey in building resilient, strong, confident and connected life-long learners. Working together, we value the relationships between students, school and whanau. We continually strive to strengthen these relationships to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for our young women of today.
We are proud to be the largest girls’ school in the wider Hastings district that consistently achieves academic results above the national average. Our curriculum provides a vast array of learning opportunities responding to the individual needs of every student. Girls are inspired to be kind, respectful, and to succeed in every endeavour.
You will be welcomed to a school that celebrates diversity, embraces inclusiveness and has a rich and valued history. In knowing our girl and supporting her in her learning today, she will be best prepared for her tomorrow.

Living in Hawke's Bay and New Zealand
We are delighted to be able to host a number of international students again this year. During their time with us, the girls have an opportunity to explore new and exciting experiences, both within and beyond the classroom. 2019 is off to a great start with our girls experiencing many firsts, whether it be new places, new cultures or discovering the uniqueness of Aotearoa.
Hawke’s Bay is a region on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island. It’s known for its beaches and wineries. Examples of the region’s art deco architecture include the Daily Telegraph Building and Municipal Theatre in Napier, and the Hawke’s Bay Opera House in Hastings. Napier’s National Aquarium of New Zealand has a viewing tunnel for marine life, and shelters endangered local species like kiwis and tuataras.
