For many years, parents from around the globe have chosen Hastings Girls’ High School for their daughter's overseas education. After their time as part of the HGHS whanau, students return home with everlasting memories, warm new friendships, unique experiences that they have enjoyed and enriched their lives for ever. Our dedicated International Coordinator provides exceptional pastoral care to international students and also arranges and monitors their homestay families to make the most of the opportunities on offer.

Some girls join us to improve their English language and they soon discover they gain so much more than a better understanding of English.

Anne Rinck from Germany

“Hastings Girls’ High School has the most amazing choices of subjects, and the equipment in Photography and Food Technology are the best.  It was great that I could study subjects which are not available to me in Germany, such as Textiles Technology, Visual Arts and Design and Painting and Printmaking. The Music Suite has five pianos and guitars, so we could practice at any time.  I love the atmosphere amongst the New Zealand girls and I’ve made many friends. I was very lucky to receive the International Cup for Academic Excellence at the end of my stay.  My host Mum is a great cook and I will miss the mince pies!”

Suzuka from Japan

“Hello I’m Suzuka from Japan and this is a photo of me with my host family – Sarah, Gareth and little Tommy, who I have been with for a year.   Tommy is so cute and I have seen him develop since he was a small baby.  The times with my host family have been the happiest and best memories for me and I will remember them forever.”

Hastings Girls’ High School abides by the Ministry of Education Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, administered by NZQA (New Zealand Qualifications Authority).

Hastings Girls’ High School offers the basic subjects of English, ESOL (English as a second language), Mathematics, Science etc., and international students can also choose from the following:  Food Technology, Fabric Design, Photography, Visual Arts and Design, Painting and Printmaking.
