  • Sports Science

    This course prepares students for Level 1 Physical Education by providing a comprehensive understanding of how the body functions physically and mentally to improve performance.

    Students will explore:

    • Nutrition
    • Fitness Testing

    Note: This course is not for Pathway to the Podium students.

  • Nutritional Technology

    In this course, students explore the science behind the food we eat and its impact on well-being and behaviour.

    Using the technology process, students will develop new food products to meet nutritional requirements while learning to process food safely. Areas covered include:

    • Food science and nutrition
    • Food product design
    • Safe food handling
    • Technology and innovation
  • Visual Arts

    This course introduces students to a range of visual art disciplines, including design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture, to develop their creative strengths.

    Students will experience:

    • Drawing and digital art
    • Cultural arts such as Toi Māori and Pasifika art
    • Visual diary documentation and art analysis
    • Museum/gallery visits or participation in art exhibitions/competitions (when available)
    • Year 10 Visual Arts prepares students to continue into NCEA Level 1 Visual Arts.
  • Te Reo Māori - Te Puawai

    This course is for ākonga interested in a long-term journey in te reo Māori, preparing them for te ao whānui and NCEA.

    Through Tuhituhi, Kōrero, Pānui, and Whakarongo exercises, students will build confidence to engage in everyday conversations and formal and informal kaupapa. Areas of focus include:

    • Language structures and features
    • Cultural immersion and traditions
    • Real-world conversational skills
  • Design and Visual Communication

    Design shapes everything around us. This course focuses on developing visual communication skills and creative design practice to solve real-world problems.

    Students will learn to:

    • Use the design process in product and architectural contexts
    • Apply CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) systems
    • Explore modelling and prototyping techniques
    • This course provides a strong foundation for innovation and design-related pathways.
  • Music

    This course introduces students to the world of music, encouraging those passionate about performing and composing.

    Students will develop skills in:

    • Basic music literacy
    • Skills in a chosen instrument
    • Group performance
    • Digital music composition
    • Performance skills
  • Performing Arts

    This course allows students to explore and develop their skills in Drama, Te Ao Haka, and Dance, focusing on creativity, collaboration, and performance.

    Students will:

    • Develop acting techniques, improvisation, and scripted performances in Drama
    • Learn haka, waiata, and cultural narratives in Te Ao Haka
    • Explore dance styles, choreography, and stage performance in Dance
    • Students will build confidence, creativity, and teamwork while showcasing their talents through movement, storytelling, and cultural expression.
  • Junior English Language (JEL)

    This course supports multilingual students with English grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

    Students will also draw on their cultural and heritage language knowledge to enhance learning. Enrolment for this class must be confirmed by Mrs Beatty.
