Term Four Week 1

Special Assembly Monday 16 October

We invite all students and whānau to attend our Assembly on Monday as we will be announcing our 2024 Student Leaders and award students with their Ākina Badges. The Assembly starts at 10.15am and should be finished by 10.45am.

Changes to Footwear for 2024

From the start of 2024, Roman sandals will no longer be part of the school uniform. Students will be required to wear plain black shoes. This change has come about due to changes to health and safety requirements in both Science and Technology, the limited life span sandals offer and the ongoing cost for whānau. Over the next few weeks students will provide voice around their shoe preferences which will determine a range of styles available to choose from.

Flaxmere Bus Tickets

Due to a price increase by the transport provider, we will now be selling subsidised Flaxmere Bus Tickets at the Student Centre. A 10 trip card can be purchased for $20.00. Tickets purchased on the bus remain at full price.

Trades Academy Prizegiving

Our Trades Academy Students have their Prizegiving next Wednesday 18 October at Clubs Hastings, 308 Victoria Street. Our students and whānau have been sent an invitation and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Kendall Ah Kiong also received the best Taupou Award. They also took away the overall secondary school award showcasing an outstanding display of all the Polyfest goals celebrating cultural heritage and identity, Pacific mana, sharing Pacific messages of resilience and perseverance and overall creativity and presence.

Future Leaders Academy Samoa

My trip to Samoa was the greatest experience of my life. I learnt valuable leadership skills that I will take forward with me for the rest of my life! I learnt the value of connection, kindness and how to appreciate the simple things in life. We went into the week as strangers and came out as family and I will take these connections with me forever. Fasito'otai, Samoa has my heart - Carys Deacon Penny (Head Girl)

Future Leaders Academy Tonga

My experience at the Future Leaders Camp in Tonga for 2023 was a trip I will never forget!! I learnt alot about leadership and how many different qualities there are to leadership. I was exposed to many different leaders in this camp in which I developed a better understanding of what leadership is all about. One thing that stood out to me in this experience was "You don't always need to lead from the front. The best leaders lead from not only the front but the back and side". I realised that everyone is capable of being a leader. It's about believing you can do it and doing the right thing. I also met the most amazing people who had similar standards and goals as me which allowed me to push myself even more and reach my fullest potential. This camp gave me the opportunity to lead a group which tested my self-confidence. However, I learnt a lot about what a good leader looks like. My experience was one to remember and one I would love to do all over again! - Kendall Ah Kiong ( Arts Captain)
