Homestay Families Required for International Students

We require some fabulous new homestay families to host international students who come to our school in July and February each year. These girls are usually with us for six months or a full year but in coming years we may also have some girls who come for shorter stays of just a few weeks. You will receive a fortnightly board payment during their stay with you.

This is a great opportunity for your family to learn about another culture and to showcase our Kiwi lifestyle to girls from places such as Germany, Japan, and China. Please email international@hastingsgirls.com and an information pack (with application form) will be sent to you.

Bay of Islands Trip

Last week the Level 2/3 Outdoor Pursuits class went to the Bay of Islands. Their first camp was located on Urupukapuka Island east of Kerikeri; they travelled by boat to get there! After two days there they headed into the bush to set up camp. Being in dense bush was challenging with limited services but well worth the experience. They took a break at Paihia and Russell before the 9-hour trip home. Such a wonderful experience for our students to see the amazing sights of the Bay of Islands.

Boost Your Learning

Passing an exam when you aren’t sure of the content and applications is almost impossible. At Boost Your Learning we want all students to feel confident and supported at NCEA so we have developed this fantastic interactive course to equip Year 10 and Year 11 students with everything they need to be successful in the Numeracy CAA. The course is split into a series of four modules with short five-minute lessons with an experienced teacher, an interactive quiz and follow up work designed to build NCEA Numeracy Skills:

Welding Workshop

The e2e team are excited to bring back the very popular Welding Workshop taster day in collaboration with ATNZ and EIT Trades.

This is a one-day event where students can test themselves and each other on the ATNZ welding simulators and then spend some time in the workshop creating a take-home item. It’s a very hands-on and engaging day!

Also note the following important information:

  • This is a FREE event.

  • Transport can be arranged to and from school if required (please indicate asap).

  • Lunch will be provided for all attendees.

  • Students will need to wear covered shoes; all other PPE is provided for the event.

  • This workshop is purely a ‘taster’ event; no credits can be achieved.
