Term Three Week 7
Principal's Message
Kia ora e te whānau
This week has been another wonderful reminder of the pride we hold in our ākonga. It was fantastic to see our netballers on court in Palmerston North at the Lower North Island Secondary Schools Netball Competition. They were amazing throughout the week, finishing 10th overall — a fantastic achievement and a reflection of their commitment, teamwork, and skill.
Today, our students went all out in a sea of yellow to support the Cancer Society's annual Daffodil Day. It was inspiring to see so many of our students and staff get behind this great cause. A huge thank you to our wonderful Student Council, who organised a gold coin collection and helped us raise an amazing $215.10 for the Hawke's Bay Cancer Society. What a fantastic effort for a cause that touches so many lives.
I have also received letters from members of our wider community, congratulating us on how wonderful our students are and how proudly they represent our kura. These messages highlight what we already know — that our young women model our values, wear their uniform with pride, and set a positive example wherever they go.
On Monday we will be holding a special assembly to announce our 2026 student leaders. Announcing these roles early allows the successful applicants to shadow our current leaders and grow into their positions ahead of next year. Our 2025 leaders will continue in their formal roles until the end of Week 4 next term, ensuring continuity and support during this transition period.
We warmly invite the whānau of our successful 2026 leaders to join us at this assembly on Monday 1 September, 12.30pm in the Hall, as we celebrate and acknowledge this next step in their leadership journey.
To the students who put themselves forward but missed out on formal leadership roles this time — thank you. It takes real courage to apply, to stand on stage and share your vision, and to put yourself into the spotlight. That courage and willingness to serve our kura does not go unnoticed. Leadership takes many forms, and we value the contribution each of you makes.

Board of Trustees Student Rep 2025/2026
It's nomination time for the Board of Trustees Student Rep for 2025/2026. The Student Rep is the voice for the students on the School Board. This is an opportunity to make your voice heard and represent students in important school decisions. There are some great benefits being a student representative, such as having a voice on how the school is governed, and gaining valuable knowledge and experience.
If you would like to be the Student Rep for Hastings Girls' High School pick up a nomination form from the Main Office. Nominations close at 12pm on Wednesday 3 September.
Our Students made a Difference for a Great Cause!
Last Sunday, our Student Council showed their community spirit by volunteering at the Cancer Society Family Fun Colour Run for Daffodil Day. It was such a wonderful cause, and the girls were up bright and early, helping to set up the course, unpack and sort the colourful powder, and get everything ready for the big day. Once the race began, they enthusiastically covered participants in colour, cheering everyone on as they ran by. It was a fantastic day of giving back, and the girls truly enjoyed helping to make the event a huge success. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication to supporting the community. Well done, everyone!
Taupō Camp Delivers for Year 12 PE Students
What a way to kick off Term 3! Our Year 12 Physical Education and Outdoor Education students had an incredible time on their three-night camp to Taupō. Despite a rainy start, spirits were high and the adventures were endless.
They tackled the mountain bike trails around the Craters of the Moon and hit the slopes for a day of snowboarding at Whakapapa Ski Field. A definite highlight was taking the Sky Waka gondola to the top of the mountain where they were greeted with a beautiful snowfall.
It was an absolute blast and a fantastic experience for everyone involved!
Alpine Adventures: Year 10 Students Hit the Slopes!
An unforgettable adventure for our Year 10 Exploring the Great Outdoors students!
Earlier this term, they spent four incredible days based at Mangatepopo. The highlight was a trip to Whakapapa Ski Field where everyone had a snowboarding lesson and enjoyed an epic day on the slopes.
They also completed the stunning Taranaki Falls walk, soaking in the beautiful scenery and learning valuable information for their alpine studies from the local Information Centre.
It was an awesome experience that provided both adventure and a deeper understanding of our natural environment!
Farewell to our Japanese Sisters
Today we say haere rā to our wonderful Japanese students, Saya, Hatsune, Rina, Mirei, and Kanoha!
It’s been an absolute pleasure having you with us, and we’ve loved sharing our corner of the world with you. Thank you for bringing so much energy, kindness, and culture to Hastings Girls' High School.
We hope you've made some awesome memories to take home with you. We'll miss you all! Safe travels, and all the best for your next adventures.
さようなら、また会う日まで (Goodbye, until the day we meet again).
