Carl Gibbons

Careers Advisor / Physical Education and Health Teacher

Meet Carl Gibbons, Health and Physical Education kaiako and Careers Advisor. Born and bred in West Auckland, he moved from physiotherapy to education fifteen years ago. Teaching allows him to share his love of physical activity and outdoor education with students and whānau, helping them to chart a course to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

He stepped out of his role as Deputy Principal at Rutherford College to move his whānau to Hawke’s Bay at the Hastings Girls’ High School community in late 2018. He loves his work here because of the students and their whānau, as well as being part of a staff that is professional, energetic and forward thinking, with the shared goal of filling every girl’s kete with the qualifications, skills and attributes to succeed in the next stage of their lives.

His interests are broad and varied. You might find him in the ocean when surf’s up, being an active member of Hawke’s Bay Boardriders; spending time with his whānau; playing touch rugby; at a live rock concert or working on his goal of becoming fluent in Te Reo Māori.
