The primary sector describes farming, forestry, horticulture, manuka honey, wool, dairy and many other support industries such as laboratories, packhouses, transportation, export operations, technology, logistics and marketing.

Agri-businesses in Hawke's Bay are experiencing ageing workforces. Many employees will be retiring over the next 5 years. There are many great careers, not just jobs, for you in our local community.

This learning pathway will accelerate your learning and increase your chances of success. Take your learning beyond the classroom in 2024.

AgriTech combines NCEA standards from Young Enterprises (Business Studies), Science (Horticulture/Agriculture) and Technology (Food and Fibre).

Technology

  • Understanding advanced concepts used to make products

  • How to preserve food to ensure quality and integrity

  • Multi-unit production processes

Science/Horticulture

  • Plant propagation

  • How to manage pests and disorders in plants

  • Use of animals in farming

  • Environmental science

  • Biological organisms

  • Lab work – testing and analysis

Kete - Work Ready Skills

  • Driver's Licence

  • Workplace First Aid

  • Field skills – get outdoors and gain experience

  • CVs, job interviews

  • Work experience – in local businesses

Example Student

6 subjects in 2024:

Business Studies:  15 credits
Multi-Tech:  16 credits
Science Ag/Hort:  16 credits
*Kete:  AS/US standards, first aid, safety etc
English :  14 credits
Option 1:  14 credits

*Kete will be where you conduct Achievement Standards, First Aid, Driver’s License, Practical skills.

For Year 13s, you can obtain UE through the AgriTech pathway.

Final credits may adjust slightly once standards are confirmed.
